Amy Grace Harwood
Embodied Awareness Facilitator:
Growing up in the Middle East, periodically visiting the West, I became very curious about the human condition, identity, religion and spirituality. I studied social anthropology, and upon encountering physical and mental health challenges, at the same time, was exploring different forms of natural health and meditation, which has continued for the last 20+ years. In the last 15 or so, I have been trained, and/or influenced formatively by, the following non-dual awareness and healing teachers; Byron Katie, Adyashanti and his students Jon Bernie and Marlies Myoku Cocheret, The Presence Process by MB, Kiran Trace, Pamela Wilson, Jac O Keeffe and Angelo Dilullo MD. Currently I am a member of the ASI (Association of Spiritual Integrity), and have been involved in their creation of a peer support network for those in a spiritual helping/caring, teaching or leadership role. I hold a level III Counselling Award and am currently working towards level IV. My working practice is supported and informed by regular psychotherapist supervision, spiritual mentorship, and peer group support.
In my facilitation and teaching practice, I work with anyone who would like to have a better knowledge and relationship with their mind and emotions, how to heal themselves and also those new to, and interested in, beginning a meditation practice. I specialise in those needing support with challenging and repetitive life patterns and emotional states, such as; depression, grief, guilt, shame and self anger, as well as big life transitions, such as pregnancy, loss and illness. Many of the above, I have been through myself, and have used these same tools to practice my way back to more clarity and better health.
Artist:
In my artistic practice, I am currently exploring using plant and earth pigment in ink and paint, plus certain mixed media mediums, to paint and collage onto paper and canvas. I tend towards non-conceptual, immediate and non-figurative expression. Listening to what’s alive in the moment and enjoying the discovery of what emerges from nothing. That is where meditation meets this practice, in connecting to what is simple and letting that unhinder the complicated. Letting the unknown and the body lead.
Both my artistic and therapeutic work are supported by regular sea dips and ambling walks here by the Cornish coast, community, meditation and a beloved improvisational music and dance practice.
