1-2-1 Sessions

You can expect sessions with Amy to be more than just about managing stress and anxiety. The Embodying Awareness practice that she teaches can gently and profoundly heal the root causes of suffering...
— Ben Ford MBACP (Accred)

A 1-2-1 with Amy may be useful for:

  • Anyone who would like to learn more about their mind, body and emotions, and how to work with their triggers through somatic (body-based) meditation, by receiving a personal healing facilitation with Amy and learning to integrate a meditation practice into their lives, so that they can gradually re-attune more fully to their own guidance and self-healing capacities.

  • Anyone with a challenging and repetitive life pattern and who is particularly drawn to this work, wishing to find some extra support and clarity.

  • Those wanting to experience more clarity and peace from varying mental/emotional difficulties, such as loss, grief, depression, anxiety or a major life transition.

  • Pre and post-natal mums, who may be struggling mentally and emotionally before and after birth. Or just those who would like to learn how to connect to and support their emotional and physical bodies a little more for the journey ahead. Such an important time, which still goes largely unsupported in our societies. Some good emotional and mental support and tools can help to go through this challenging period more happily and peacefully, with the body feeling more relaxed, nourished, supported and tuned into.

  • Those new to meditation.

  • Seasoned spiritual practitioners still experiencing emotional/mental issues, on and off the cushion and/or having difficulties going deeper, feeling dislocated and/or integrating surfacing pain and trauma.

  • Those having trouble practicing non-dual type inquiry.

  • Spiritual practitioners who have experienced challenges with a spiritual teacher and are seeking some clarity and support.

What happens during a 1-2-1 session?

Each session is unique to the needs of the moment. We often start with a brief check-in to connect with how you are doing on the day and what are the main themes arising for you. You are very welcome to say as much or as little as you feel comfortable doing so. This is a time to ask questions and for me to give you any necessary context on the practice. When that feels complete, we will begin to slow down and settle into a very gently guided meditation practice together. If you’re new to meditation and embodiment practices and/or if you are navigating some trauma in your system, we will go very gently in the first session. We will over time, gradually build you up to bring awareness more fully into the body, connecting to silence, and start to explore what is really happening for you on an energetic level. We will explore what the emotions, thoughts and physical pain are really, in the reality of the present moment. We will also start to learn how to meet these inner disturbances with awareness, kindness, curiosity and certain tools, so that they might be able to relax and release from the body altogether, bringing an increased sense of peace, health and wellbeing.

What is Embodying Awareness Meditation?

Embodying Awareness meditation is a somatic (body-based) practice, learning how to work with our inner disturbances over time (pain or dis-ease, be it physical, emotional or mental) back into the unconditioned ease that is our natural state. We can learn how to allow our mind to meet these disturbances with deep respect and compassion, and using the different tools, practices and non-dual inquiry that Amy has learned from many sources over time (see the about me page for more info), we can come to aid in the dissolution of pain and suffering within ourselves. With time, patience and practice, we are able to slowly heal our inner and outer world and to bring our lives into a more simple and easeful alignment.

The Work of Byron Katie

The Work is a wonderful written form of inquiry. A way to slow your world down by putting a challenging personal issue onto paper for exploration and healing, using a simple set of well engineered questions. It is a written form of meditation. This technique maps the form and structure of a triggered moment, and then helps to release you from it, by questioning its validity and reality. Katie’s Work is a great foundational teaching on how the mind and reality works. I will lead a meditation prior, so that we can go deeper and be more present with the Qs and the Turnarounds.

I sometimes use elements of this work in my Embodied Awareness sessions, woven into initial sessions where it might be helpful for certain people. It can aid in exploring the mind in an upset moment and to provide an at home tool. It is a great first step into emotional/somatic (body-based) inquiry, and getting familiar with working with thoughts and beliefs, especially for those of us who sometimes, or often, can feel a little estranged from the body and what they are feeling.

It was a big foundational stone for my practice, and even if we don’t use it outright, it is always there, in the background, informing the way I work.
